How to Award Kudos
Awarding (or taking away) kudos is easy! There are two ways to do it:
- Click your child’s card to award kudos to an individual child.
- Click the plus icon on the home page to award kudos to one child or multiple kids at the same time.
Either route you take, you can choose from preset options to award 1-5 kudos. Or, click add or subtract at the bottom of the screen to award or take away a custom amount.
While you’re at it, don’t forget to jot down why your child earned the kudos. This is optional, but it helps track positive behavior patterns over time!
How to Use the Timed Challenge
If your kids need a motivation boost to clean their room or finish their homework, whip out the Kudosy timed challenge. Here’s how it works:
- Navigate to the timer. Click Challenge (timer icon) at the bottom of the home page.
- Set the timer. Tap inside the circle to set the amount of time.
- Set the reward. Use the plus or minus sign to set the kudos your kids can win during the timed challenge. (If they finish the challenge in half the time, they’ll win twice as many kudos!)
- Start the timer. Click Start timer to start the timed challenge.
- End the challenge. Click Nailed It! to award kudos when your kids finish the challenge, or click Not quite… if your kids don’t complete it on time.
- Award kudos. If your kids completed the challenge within the timed limit, click Yep! to award kudos to individual kids or all kids at once. If your kids didn’t complete the challenge, click Nope… and try again soon!
Timed challenges can be used in many creative ways. Try it when your kids are getting ready for bed, doing chores, getting out the door for school — anytime you want them moving quickly!
How to Manage Rewards
Incentivizing your kids with rewards and experiences can be a game-changer. It’s the magic of Kudosy! Here’s how to add and manage rewards in the parent portal:
- Navigate to the parent portal. Click Parents (lock icon) at the bottom of the home page.
- Manage rewards. Click Manage Rewards (treasure chest icon).
- Add a reward. Scroll through the list of preset rewards. Click the reward to set the kudo cost, view the item on Amazon, or save the reward.
- Set visibility. Toggle the Visible for Kids? button to make the prize visible or hidden from your child’s reward list.
- Create a custom reward. Click the green plus icon in the bottom right corner to add a custom reward. Add a title and description, then set the kudo cost.
If you want to change the reward or the kudo cost, you can always come back to the parent portal to make edits!
How to Use Kudos
There’s more to kudos than meets the eye! Here are three ways kids can use their kudos:
- Spend: Kids can save up for a reward or spend kudos on a spontaneous purchase — like a candy bar at the store.
- Invest: By default, invested kudos gain 20% interest after two weeks. Feel free to edit the time frame and the interest rate per child in the parent portal.
- Give: Kids can pool their money to buy things together or give away kudos as an act of kindness.
How to Change the Value of a Kudo
How much are kudos worth? It’s up to you!
Kudos have a default value of 10 cents, but you can edit the value in the parent portal. This can be helpful if you want to raise the value for older kids or lower the value for younger ones.
Keep in mind: when you update the value of a kudo, ALL rewards across the app are updated to reflect the change in valuation.
